Crisis Response Protocol
Last updated: 2026-10-24
If you need help now
In the US, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), free and available 24/7. Outside the US, find a free local line at findahelpline.com. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.
How we detect it
Every message you send in a chat or group chat is checked by two methods. The first matches known phrases of self-harm and suicidal intent. The second is a hosted self-harm classifier (OpenAI moderation) that catches the same meaning in other words. Either one is enough to trigger a response. After a voice call ends, the same two checks run over what you said on the call.
These checks look only at your own words, never at the character’s replies, and they never block or end your conversation.
How we respond
- In chat, a support card appears with the 988 Lifeline and the international helpline directory, alongside the character’s reply.
- During that turn, the character makes no offers: no photos, videos, gifts, early access or anything you could spend Sparks on.
- On a voice call, the character is instructed to step out of the flirtation, tell you that you are not alone, and give you the 988 and findahelpline.com resources out loud.
All characters on BeMyDate are fictional and AI-generated. They are not counsellors and cannot replace a trained person; the resources above can.
What we keep
We do not store, review or share the words that triggered a response. Each time support resources are shown we add one to a daily total, recorded only by date, by surface (chat, group chat or voice) and by which check fired. These totals contain no account, message or conversation identifiers.
We publish these totals each year as required by Washington HB 2225 and Oregon SB 1546. Questions about this protocol: legal@bemydate.ai.
